K9 Program

The Farmersville Police Department K-9 program has been in place since 1998. Officers chosen to be canine handlers undergo rigorous training with their new K-9 partners. Once officers complete the required training, the K-9 teams are assigned to patrol and begin providing service to the City of Farmersville. In addition to patrol work, canines can receive secondary training in narcotics detection, EOD detection, and article detection. Each month, canine teams conduct a minimum of 16 hours of training in these areas. Currently, the Farmersville Police Department K-9 division consists of two patrol/narcotics detection canines and one narcotics/article detection canine.
